Karen Marshall and Mark Tanner will be offering ideas on how to use ensemble playing from the word go, encourage pupils to work towards their very first piano exam and, above all, to fall in love with the wonderful world of piano playing.

Karen Marshall

Karen is a practising private, peri, first access and classroom music teacher in York with pupils from 5 years to 72. She studied piano pedagogy with the late Christine Brown. Co-author of Collins Music, Get Set! Piano series, and compiler of ABRSM Piano Encore, she has titles in ABRSM Piano Star Series and also is the creator of the Piano Trainer Series with Faber - which includes the Foundation Pianist (with David Blackwell) and The Intermediate Pianist (with Heather Hammond - Best Printed Resource 2018 in the Music Teacher Awards for Excellence).


Mark Tanner

Mark Tanner is a concert pianist, composer, B.I.F.F. adjudicator, teacher and writer. His performing and academic work takes him regularly to all five continents. Solo appearances include many recitals at London’s Wigmore Hall, South Bank Centre and St John’s Smith Square, as well as St George’s Bristol, where he performed in piano duo with Alan Schiller at the Mozart 250th Anniversary Celebrations. He appears regularly on luxury cruise liners, having given in excess of 300 recitals on all of the Cunard, P&O and Saga ships.
