The aim of the EPTA Belfast Piano Festival is to encourage, motivate and honour high levels of piano playing and piano teaching, and to promote musical awareness through participation in performing.
CLASSES
1. Elementary (Grades 1-3): max. 5 minutes. Fee: £5.00 (£7.50 non-members)
2. Intermediate I (Grades 4-5): max. 7.5 minutes. Fee: £7.50 (£10 non-members)
3.Intermediate II (Grades 6-7): max. 10 minutes.Fee: £10.00 (£12.50 non-members)
4. Advanced I (Grade 8): max. 10 minutes. Fee: £10.00 (£12.50 non-members)
5. Advanced II (post-Grade 8): max. 15 minutes. Fee: £15.00 (£17.50 non-members)
RULES OF ENTRY
All classes are open to members and non-members of EPTA(UK) and to their pupils.
The competition has an age limit of 25 and under for ALL classes. Entrants must be 25 or under by 1st March 2019.
Entrants are allowed to enter ONE class only.
Two or more contrasting pieces should be played in each class. Category entry is set by the level of the repertoire chosen for entry, determined by the highest level piece. Entrants will be re-allocated to a different class if necessary.
Entries, along with the correct fee, should be emailed or posted or hand delivered to John McParland on or before 7th March. A separate entry form is needed for each competitor (see attached). EPTA members may also enter online via the Epta UK website (www.epta-uk.org) and payment can be made via online banking. For details about how to pay the entry fee in euros please contact John McParland by email.
No changes to the programme are permitted once the application form has been received.
The adjudicator’s decision is final.
ADJUDICATION
Each participant will receive a verbal and written adjudication and a certificate of entry. Certificates for Outstanding, Distinction and Highly Commended will be awarded where appropriate by the adjudicator, and the adjudicator will choose one winner from each class. No actual marks will be given. Entries may be non-competitive and will only receive a verbal and written adjudication and a certificate. They will not be eligible for prizes or for Outstanding, Distinction or Highly Commended categories.
PRIZES
Prizes will be awarded to the winners of the following classes:
Elementary Cup and music voucher
Intermediate I £30
Intermediate II £40
Advanced I £50
Advanced II £60
The winners of each class will also be invited to participate in a masterclass given by Roy Holmes. Further prizes for winners may include lunchtime recital opportunities, a recital at the EPTA UK Annual Conference, and a free place at the Chetham’s International Summer School and Festival for Pianists (at the discretion of the adjudicator).
