EPTA UK Management

Committee Member Amy Wakefield

I grew up in Stockport and began playing the piano at the age 5 and the violin aged 6. I attended Chetham’s School of Music in 1999 where I studied the piano with Susan Bettaney and continued my studies on the violin. I received a scholarship to study at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2004 and now work as a freelance pianist teacher. I am part of a successful concert duo with clarinettist Sarah Douglas and we play in recitals around the UK. I have enjoyed performing regularly as guest artist on Cunard and P&O cruise ships over the past 6  years. In 2008 I was awarded my PGCE in Music Education and over the years have developed a strong teaching practice in Congleton through teaching piano and violin.  I also teach in local schools. I am extremely passionate about teaching and passing on my love for music to others and strongly agree with EPTA’s purpose to raise standards of piano teaching, piano performance and general musicianship in the UK. I have been fortunate enough to help with EPTA Manchester events and have enjoyed writing a range of articles for the Piano Professional magazine. I truly believe in providing opportunities for others and I am pleased to be a member of the EPTA management committee to continue building this for the future generations.
