The Persuasive Piano Teacher
A Professional Development Workshop with Anthony Williams
We are pleased to invite you to a professional development workshop with Anthony Williams, tailored specifically for piano teachers, that emphasises imagination, creativity, and personal communication at the core of their teaching and performance.
This workshop is inspired by Anthony’s philosophy in The Piano Teacher’s Survival Guide, which emphasises that musical imagination and personal expression are not optional “add-ons” to prelearned notes, but the essential starting point of meaningful music-making. From this perspective, technique naturally develops from sound, intention, and expressive awareness – leading to a more relaxed physical approach and ultimately to persuasive, engaging performances.
During this two-hour workshop, Anthony will explore principles of musical technique rooted in sound, imagination, self-awareness, and deep listening, rather than in repetitive studies or purely mechanical exercises. Together, we will reflect on how these ideas can transform both our teaching and our students’ learning experiences.
Participants are warmly encouraged to bring one piece (of any level) to work on during the session. This practical element will provide opportunities to experiment, share ideas, and develop a deeper understanding of how to teach more creatively and imaginatively. This workshop offers not only an opportunity to develop new teaching methods but also a space for reflection, discussion, and connection with fellow teachers. It provides a chance to refresh your musical thinking, strengthen your sense of artistic purpose, and invest in both your professional development and personal growth.
We look forward to exploring these ideas together and to expanding our creativity.
