Sheila WINPENNY - Teacher Profile

About Me

I have been teaching the piano for many years, with my pupils progressing to advanced grades, and occasionally beyond Grade 8. I also teach theory of music.

My career began as a music teacher in secondary schools; later I worked as a peripatetic piano teacher in independent schools in Yorkshire. I now concentrate on teaching the piano privately at home.

I thoroughly enjoy teaching pupils of all ages and all standards and have entered them for examinations - both Associated Board and TrinityGuildhall - with most of them gaining passes with distinction or merit.

For several years my husband and I have run the successful 'Ripon Young Musicians of the Year' competition, believing that it is good for young students of all instruments to have the chance to perform alongside others and to have their success recognised publicly.

Many of the adults I teach are learning to play the piano purely for pleasure and I am happy to explore a varied repertoire with them, without any pressure to take examinations or perform.
