About Me
Teacher of Piano, Keyboard and Music Theory; teaching children and adults from beginners to advanced (Classical and Popular styles), and presenting students for the full range of graded practical and theory examinations, and diplomas, with many gaining distinctions. Pianist; with experience of playing Jazz and other styles of Popular music, as well as Classical. Accompanist; accompanying instrumentalists, singers, choirs, and instrumental ensembles in concerts, recitals, festivals, and examinations. Organist; performing music for weddings and other special occasions, as well as regular Sunday services. Composer: including commissioned and published works for orchestra, chorus, chamber ensembles, piano solo, electro-acoustic medium, two musicals, songs, music for film, and liturgical music. Arrangements include music for orchestra, Jazz bands, various instrumental ensembles and choirs. Author: publications including Study Guides for National 5 Music, Higher Music, and Advanced Higher Music, published by Bright Red, an online National 5 Music Course for SCHOLAR, as well as contributing articles and reviews to the Musical Times, the British Journal of Music Education, Music Journal, The Hebridean Times and local newspapers. Conductor / Musical Director; with experience of conducting school orchestras, bands, Jazz bands, and a variety of amateur operatic, orchestral and choral groups. Lecturer / Guest Speaker; giving talks and presentations about different aspects of music on cruises and to local organisations. Former Head of Music and Head of Creative arts at Balfron High School. Former Principal Assessor for Higher Music with the Scottish Qualifications Authority. Member of the European Piano Teachers Association (EPTA) Member of the Guild of Church Musicians (GCM) Fellow of the Independent Society of Musicians (FISM) Full registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) Membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.
