Teacher Profile
About Me
I gained my Bachelor of Music degree with Honours at Lancaster University, studying piano under the tutelage of Jane Frogley and Christine Stevenson 1993-1996. I also attained the ALCM in Piano Teaching in 1996 under the guidance once more of Christine Stevenson. I have been a piano teacher in private practice and in schools across north Lancashire since gaining my qualifications, above. As well as operating a thriving private teaching practice in Heysham I am currently Lead Piano Tutor at Lancaster Royal Grammar School, where I have taught since 2004. I teach students of all ages and abilities (up to ARSM level) including neurodiverse students, for whom I have a particular interest. I teach music theory up to Grade 5 (ABRSM and Trinity). Those students who wish to prepare for piano exams are offered ABRSM and LCM options. My students are given the opportunity to perform regularly in masterclasses, festivals, concerts and competitions. My role as a professional musician include being an Examiner for LCM 2013-2016. I have also worked as a moderator for EdExcel GCSE performance exams. I currently manage the LCM Heysham exam centre, hosting exams in my music studio three times a year. I am the EPTA Regional Organiser for Lancaster, helping to run the EPTA piano competition, training events and so forth. I was a member of the duo The Two of Us, performing at weddings, prestigious business events and celebrations all over North England, including live performances on the local radio. My CDP is regularly updated by attending teaching workshops, seminars and conferences. I partake in regular lessons/consultations to keep my own performing skills in order. In my spare time I enjoy learning other instruments (clarinet, saxophone, bodhran, viola and violin), singing in choirs and composing solo and duet pieces for my students to learn. I have been a full member of the ISM and EPTA since 1996 and have Enhanced DBS status.
