About Me
Music has been at the heart of my life for as long as I can remember. From my earliest piano lessons, I discovered that music connects, inspires, and brings joy – not only to those who make it, but to everyone around them. Over time, I’ve come to see music not just as an art form, but as a way of life: one that invites us to listen deeply, grow continually, and share creativity generously with others. For 25 years, I’ve shared in the musical journeys of students of all ages and stages. My teaching is imaginative and student-centre, focused on exploration, confidence, and creativity rather than exams alone. Alongside this, I now work increasingly with other instrumental and singing teachers, offering mentoring and support that encourages reflection, purpose, and joy in their own teaching. Composing, writing, and research form the other threads of my work. I’ve published over 100 compositions and arrangements performed worldwide, and my articles have appeared in Music Teacher, Piano Professional, and the British Journal of Music Education. My PhD at the Royal College of Music explored autonomy and control in private music teaching, and I continue to be passionate about connecting research with real-world practice in meaningful ways. At heart, I believe music education should be nurturing, creative, and deeply human, a lifelong journey shared between teacher and student alike. Beyond teaching, I write and create around the themes of slow, simple, and seasonal living over at A Life More Creative and Rediscover · Reconnect · Re-Emerge – spaces where creativity and reflection intertwine. I’m also a genealogist and historical researcher over at David Barton Research.
