A Unique Opportunity for Teachers and Students to Feel What it’s Like to Have Larger Hands!

The Scottish company Pianodrome (http://pianodrome.org) has been commissioned by the Leeds International Piano Competition to set up a Pianodrome amphitheatre in the Leeds City Museum from 1st to 21st September, including the dates of the Leeds finals (11-21 Sept).

This Pianodrome will have three different sized keyboards in playable upright pianos embedded in the amphitheatre, open to all six days a week (excluding Mondays) during this period. Apart from the conventional 6.5 inch octave keyboard, there will be 6.0 and 5.5 inch octave keyboards for pianists to try. These narrower keys allow a pianist to feel what it’s like to have larger hands – something that many wish for!

The keyboards have been funded by a private donor in conjunction with the US-based DS® Standard Foundation. As narrower keys become increasingly available, this is a unique opportunity for teachers to bring their students to Leeds and engage in the worldwide movement that is likely to change the piano world in the coming years by providing piano keyboards that suit all hands.
