About Me

Graham has an in person teaching practice in Kent and also teaches students online (London, Qatar, Germany and Sweden for example). He performs as well as teaching. As a performer he has had an extensive and varied carer from the six piano contemporary music group Piano Circus & artist in residence Brunel University to No.2 in UK pop charts with The Mike Flowers Pops. Solo and chamber group recitals and any manner of lighter musical contexts have also been a feature of his performing activities. In addition,  as a workshop leader he has worked for over twenty years in prisons & hospices, hospitals and schools as well as with the homeless and in safe places for vulnerable women. He has also led outreach music workshops for Glyndebourne Education Dep, the LPO and the Philharmonia Orchestra. Graham has gained much experience with over 30 years as a teacher in the UK. As well as his private lessons he is often invited to teach in the UK other countries on workshops and summer schools by invitation (most recently Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Belgium) all of which he loves to do, sharing great music and the art of piano playing with children and adults alike. He was a scholar at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he studied with Joan Havill (piano) and Stefan Popov (cello) and Graham won the Adelaide Alexander Memorial Prize in 1985 for his performance of the Liszt 2nd Concerto. More recently, he was one of six finalist in the Open Piano Competition (London) in 2012. Composition has been a growing interest of Graham’s for a number of years and his piano Duets “A Sad Simple Sarabande” and “Danza” have won First and Second prize in the EPTA composers competition (adult class). Graham maintains his lifelong interest in the collected works of C.G. Jung.
