Teacher Profile
About Me
I am a highly qualified and experienced piano teacher, holding a Masters in Advanced Performance with Distinction from the prestigious Royal College of Music, London (2005), where I also earned my Postgraduate Diploma and Bachelor of Music (Hons) degrees. As a performing soloist and chamber musician in the UK and abroad, I bring real-world experience and a deep understanding of music to my teaching. Based in Weybridge, Surrey, I welcome dedicated students of all ages and abilities, from beginners to advanced pianists. While I enjoy working with advanced students, I am always excited to nurture serious learners at any level. Experience: In addition to my personal career as concert pianist and chamber musician, I have taught more than a hundred pupils (from beginners to professionals, including piano teachers) for more than 25 years, teaching them at distinguished public schools in London and in Hampshire, and also privately. They have all successfully performed at ABRSM exams, concerts, scholarships and auditions. Being an active performer as well as a teacher allows me to demonstrate accurately on the piano and inspire my pupils to a high level of piano playing. Training: Since coming to London in 1999, I have had the privilege to work extensively with Andrew Ball, Irina Zaritskaya and Yonty Solomon, himself a pupil of Dame Myra Hess. I have also received many prestigious masterclasses and lessons in Belgium, England, Germany, Spain, in the U.S.A. and in Israel, playing for eminent artists such as Galina Egyazarova, John O’Conor, Pavel Gililov, Bernard Roberts, Joseph Banowetz, Oxana Yablonskaja, Emanuel Ax, Paul Badura-Skoda, and Murray Perahia. What I Offer – Comprehensive Piano Tuition: I specialise in classical piano instruction, incorporating musicianship, aural training, and music theory as integral parts of the learning process, especially for exam preparation. Personalised Approach: I tailor lessons to each student’s individual needs and goals, fostering independent learning and a deep understanding of music. Expert Guidance: As a performing musician, I can provide live demonstrations and inspire you to achieve your highest potential. Focus on Effective Practice: I emphasise the crucial skill of effective practice, often overlooked by other teachers, which is essential for consistent progress and motivation. Preparation for Success: I prepare students for concerts, competitions, auditions, music scholarships, specialist music schools, and ABRSM exams. Location: I primarily teach from my home studio in Weybridge. I may be able to travel to nearby areas, including Walton-on-Thames, Hersham, Esher, Claygate, Oxshott, and Shepperton, for an additional fee depending on distance and time. Fees: £60 per hour at my studio. Shorter lessons are available for younger students: 30 minutes (£34) and 45 minutes (£45). Availability: Weekdays and Saturdays. Online Options: While I believe in the value of in-person instruction, particularly for piano, I can offer piano and theory lessons online. My Teaching Philosophy: I am patient and dedicated to helping every student succeed. My goal is to empower you to become an independent and confident musician, equipped with both the technical skills and musical understanding to thrive. I am passionate about providing the best possible foundation for your musical journey. Contact me today to discuss your musical aspirations!
