About Me
Gillian Thompson studied at the Royal College of Music with David Ward. She achieved her teaching diploma for the piano, ARCM, and GRSM, equivalent to a degree in music. She trained in Dalcroze Eurythmics with improvisation and movement. She achieved her post-graduate teaching qualification, PGCE after a year at Homerton College, Cambridge. She was Head of Music at Kew College, South West London for 17 years, promoting Carl Orff percussion work and practical music making, as well as directing musical productions from the keyboard, with a small band. She also took singing lessons with Dr. Margaret Lobo and sang solos and duets with Baroque groups such as Linden Baroque under Cat Mackintosh and Discantvs. Recently she moved to Essex where she is a private music teacher, teaching Piano, Singing and Music Theory. She enjoys singing both as a soloist and in local choirs, as well as accompanying and performing on the piano. Her hobbies include swimming, Tai Chi, long country walks and Indian vegetarian cooking.
